??But he would withdraw to deserted places and pray.? ??Luke 5:16
??Prayer is natural, instinctual, without rules or boundaries, while at the same time it can also feel complicated and demanding, sometimes downright difficult???Linda McCullough Moore??The Book of Not So Common Prayer, A New Way to Pray, A New Way to Live
??Although Daniel knew that the document had been signed, he continued to go to his house, which had windows in its upper room open towards Jerusalem, and to get down on his knees three times a day to pray to his God and praise him, just as he had done previously.?
??Daniel 6:10
??Imagine a person who for years and years has grabbed coffee and a bagel each morning and then fasted till the next day, taking only sips of water, juice, or soda maybe, grabbing a cracker or a pretzel when her busy life made that a thing that she could easily do. And then, imagine one day she hears of this new approach to nourishment. Something called meals. Three times a day. Cereal with milk and coffee in the morning; entire sandwiches at lunch time; meat, pasta, salad, and crusty bread for dinner; and at bedtime, a piece of apple pie like you haven??t tasted since you were a child. That comparison comes closest to describing the change in my life once I started praying for fifteen minutes four times a day. It gave a whole new meaning to ??taste and see how good the Lord is?? (Psalm 34:8).?
So begins The Book of Not So Common Prayer that we will be exploring for our Lenten study series beginning on Wednesday, March 13. The Book of Not-So Common Prayer is a handbook that combines spiritual insight with practical action steps that we can take to change our prayer habits and change our lives.
In describing her own transformation from a person who prayed on the run to a person who prays four times a day, Linda McCullough Moore builds a compelling case for a life founded on prayer. Drawing inspiration from the ancient practice of meditation, Moore shows how any time spent in prayer will transform the time we spend with our family, at work, or in play.
Moore lays out a well-supported methodical process that we can follow to experience more depth, meaning, and joy in our prayers. We will explore useful models and share her stories of transformation, that I hope will inspire us to embark on a new adventure in faith. One step at a time.
Sessions will begin on Wednesday March 13 and continue for six weeks until April 17. Two sessions will be held, 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. I also will have a small limited number of used books available for purchase at $10.00 each if you would like your own copy.
If you have been looking to improve your prayer life or want to take your solid prayer life to a new level, I encourage you to attend one of the weekly sessions. The same material will be covered at each session so you may move back and forth as it fits your schedule.
According to Moore, ??Prayer allows us to acknowledge and attend to the deepest longings of our hearts. Prayer brings us close, where longings live, where our dreams meet grace.?

One Great Hour of Sharing Offering
Sunday, March 24
If you would like to give to this fund,
please label your offering envelope.
We sometimes think that ??imagination? means something escapist or illusory. Yet, imagination is not something unreal or fake. No, it is essential to God??s hope for creation. Hear how the Apostle Paul put it: ??Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine?.? (Ephesians 3:20-21). And God imagines a world where all are safe, all are loved, all are fed.
You see, when we use our imaginations in the way that God does, we can begin to envision ?? and work for! ?? a world where no child goes unfed, un-housed, or unloved; where no one ever fears abuse or violence; where clean water is not a dream but a reality for all; where small farmers do their work with dignity and are paid a fair wage for their labors; where agricultural practices enrich and renew the land rather than deplete it; where survivors of natural disasters have the resources they need, now and for years to come; where vulnerable immigrants are welcomed in Christ??s name.
Can YOU imagine these things? Through your gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing what we can imagine becomes ever more a reality for more and more people. Please give generously! ??More Than You Can Imagine...?
