From the Pastor??s Desk ??Jesus said to him, ??I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.??? ??John 14:6 ??Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ??Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.?? Then the righteous will answer him, ??Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you??? And the king will answer them, ??Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.??? ??Matthew 25:34-40 ??I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.??? ??John 13:34-35 Jesus says in John 14:6, that no one gets to be with God that doesn??t first believe and follow him. But what if you have a loved one who as far as you know has not professed a belief in Jesus or ever (to your knowledge) claimed to be a follower of Jesus? What is their fate after they have left this earthly world. This is a situation that has puzzled and troubled me since my parents both passed away in 1999. I never know what their beliefs were, and this was before (way before) I began down the road to ministry. As far as I know they never lived up to John 14:6. However, they did fully live up to Matthew 25:34-40 and John 13:34-35. I did hold out hope that they did at some point profess a belief in Jesus as their Savior. However, if they didn??t I also was holding out hope that God would grant them grace because they lived a life worthy of Jesus?? teachings highlighted in Matthew and John. Honestly, I really hadn??t given this line of thinking much thought until this past weekend. As many of you know Diane??s youngest brother Jerry Miller passed away early this year at the age of 59. This past weekend we celebrated Jerry??s life in Saginaw, Michigan. I had known Jerry for 40 years, since I was married to his sister. During all this time we never talked about religion or salvation or anything about Jesus. I had no idea where Jerry stood on religion or Jesus or God. I did know how he felt about cooking because we talked about that a lot. Jerry felt that any recipe could be improved with a can of cream of mushroom soup. We never fully agreed on this point. Jerry much like my folks lived out what Jesus taught in the passages from Matthew and John I quoted above. Jerry never met a stranger and would do anything for anybody. Did Jerry live a perfect life? Far from it. As Diane said at his service, ??Jerry was rough around the edges.? Despite his faults and he had many of those he loved his neighbor and took care of his neighbor. I hold out the same hope for Jerry that they did for my parents. That being that at some point he professed a belief in Jesus as his Savior. However, if he didn??t I also hold out hope that God would grant him grace because he lived a life worthy of Jesus?? teachings highlighted in Matthew and John. Continued ? Many of you may not agree with my analyst of all this and that is your choice. However, in all this we need to remember that the choice of who gets heaven and who doesn??t isn??t ours. That choice, that decision belongs solely to God as it rightly should. Because after all it is the Kingdom of God, not the Kingdom of us. I have complete faith that the God I follow will extend grace however God choses. Be it to those that sing their belief from the mountain tops or those that only live a life that is pleasing in God??s sight and never sing their belief. For me that is indeed amazing grace. Peace and blessings, Pastor Dennis ************* Revised Common Lectionary Readings for July July 1 2 Samuel 1:1,17-27 Psalm 130 2 Corinthians 8:7-15 Mark 5:21-43 July 8 2 Samuel 5:1-5,9-10 Ezekiel 2:1-5 2 Corinthians 12:2-10 Mark 6:1-13 July 15 2 Samuel 6:1-5,12b-19 Psalms 24 Ephesians 1:3-14 Mark 6:14-29 July 22 2 Samuel 7:1-14a Psalms 89:20-37 Ephesians 2:11-22 Mark 6:30-34,53-56 July 29 2 Samuel 11L1-15 2 Kings 4:42-44 Ephesians 3:14-21 John 6:1-21 ********** Please pray for these people on their designated day in July. 1) Dennis and Crystal Schroeder 2) Jerry and Ruth Sisson 3) Adam and Cassie Spears, Levi, Hailey 4) James and Sophia Stephens 5) Freddi Stowe 6) Allen Thiessen 7) Merle and Karen Thiessen- 8) Verla Thomason 9) Donna and Jim Toews 10) Lamont, Kelly Turcotte, Aoife, Loki 11) Dennis Ureche (Pastor) Diane Miller 12) Peggy Watts 13) Marcelyn Wittorff 14) Lois Wright 15) Kathy Zimmerman 16) Greg and Heather Thiessen, Taylor, Brooke 17) Norman Achilles 18) Scott and Connie Achilles 19) Phyllis Armstrong 20) Adolyn Bartels 21) Rosetta Bartels 22) Joe and Colette Berger 23) Dan and Fay Binder 24) Cody and Ashley Bornholdt 25) James Bornholdt 26) Tim and Terri Bornholdt 27) Richard and Beverly Castleberry-John 28) Gary Ely 29) Gene Ely 30) Tim and Cindy Fay 31) Shirley Friesen Communion Sunday, July 1 ************* Wednesday, July 4 ************** Thursday, July 5 2:00 p.m. ************* Board of Christian Education Monday, July 9 7:00 p.m. ************ Saturday, July 14 7:00 a.m. Inman Harvest Café ************ Senior Center Breakfast Saturday, July 21 7:00 a.m. All donations appreciated ************ Endowment Sunday July 29 ************* On Mission Sunday the nursery was cleaned and there was an overabundance of stuffed animals.
